Honey: a nutritional treasure chest

Since antiquity, honey has been part of our diet because it is rich in nutrients and it has unique properties.

Honey is a type of food that is rich in Complex B vitamins and more particularly, thiamin (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), biotin, folic acid (B9) and vitamin C.

Apart from vitamins, honey is also high in minerals that range from 0.04% in light-colored honey to 0.2% in dark honey. Potassium is a mineral that can be found in honey in large quantities but there are also other minerals in smaller quantities such as magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, manganese, iodine and zinc.

Of course, the polyphenols and the flavonoids in honey give it its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which make it a necessary addition to our daily diet.
